Technical crop mananagement of oil crops in East Kazakhstan: trials management, technical knowledge and expertise.

Lead the project "Monitoring of gene transfer from transgene oilseed rape to non-transgene and wild relatives in Kazakhstan ecosystem". Leading the project included: • Managing a team of 3 research assistants to conduct the research • Finding scientific information in english online as background and guidance (materials, methods) • Compiling bi-weekly reports to report to the head of the lab • Compiling quarterly reports to report to research sponsors • Procurement of needed materials and equipment

Research topic: "Structural studies into the cyanobactin heterocyclase OsciD and constructing a library of patellamide - like cyanobactins" under supervision of Prof J.H. Naismith. Cyclic peptides are widely recognised as a promising and still underexploited class of molecules for novel therapeutics. Research in the lab harnesses the power of recently identified macrocyclases from the ribosomally derived cyanobactin family to prepare diverse modified cyclic peptides. I was working on a lab project which involves identification of the crystal structure of OsciD heterocyclase enzyme and synthesis of novel cyclic peptides called patellamides.

The research in the lab is focused on identifying and characterizing new players and networks involved in the metabolism of carbon sources implicated in bacterial pathogenesis and those providing tolerance to toxic agents important in biofuel production. High-throughput genetic screens are used to identify new players in metabolism, computational analysis is applied to predict gene function and networks, and molecular studies are exerted to establish the role of new players and connections.
